During a time so unusual and unfortunate, people want to be as safe as possible.

People might take the time to isolate themselves and enjoy doing so. The people that don’t enjoy isolation are travellers.

The average person travels once or twice a year, yet they have not been able to thanks to lockdown. This should not stop you.

As long as you follow the government’s safety and coronavirus guidelines, then your travels to the Dominican Republic should be as safe as ever. 

Of course despite the virus, people still wonder whether or not the country of Dominican Republic is safe in itself.

The answer is, yes.

Of course there is the usual crime but as long as you don’t walk around in the middle of the night by yourself like a crazy person, you should be fine.

There are many popular and safe places in the Dominican Republic especially around the coast.

An example would be in the North Coast and the town of Cabarete.

Since it is such an active town, there is not only security but a sense of comfort thanks to the unity and family feeling of the community. 

Some safe activities in the Dominican Republic would be the following:

• The Damayagua Cascades, where there are 27 waterfalls
• Kitesurfing in Terrenas, Samaná
• Humpback whale watching during whale watching season, from January to February at Samaná Bay
• Windsurfing in Cabarete, Puerto Plata
• Canoeing through the caves of Los Haitises National Park
• Diving the Hoyo Azul cenote in Cap Cana.
• Visit the Colonial City of Santo Domingo – which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site
• Faro Colon in Santo Domingo
• Fortress San Felipe and the Cable Car in Puerto Plata
• Taino Caves in Sabana de la Mar
• Altos de Chavón in La Romana.

This includes the visit to some of the safest beaches in the country:

• Bahía de las Águilas, part of Jaragua National Park
• Playa Las Ballenas in Terrenas, Samaná
• Playa Rincon in Samaná
• Cayo Levantado, on a small island in the middle of Samaná Bay
• Playa Blanca in Punta Cana
• Playa Esmeralda, located in Miches
• Saona Island
• Playa Alicia, Sosua, Puerto Plata
